Looking up at the front of Lincoln Cathedral
Chris is a fine art black and white photographer based in Lincoln, UK. He works to a series of projects, and each will result in a book of images. He shoots mainly location based projects, revisiting many times to capture the personality of the area.
Chris is colourblind, and has difficulty with shades of green. There is a positive side, and he has a very strong connection to contrast and texture which is an advantage when shooting in monochrome. While he can see most colours, he thinks of the world in terms of light.
He studied photography while at school, and shot black and white film. He developed his own prints in the darkroom, and his editing style is based on the skills he learned. When digital overtook film, he felt that the early digital cameras weren't as good as a film camera. At the time he lived in quite a rural area, and film and darkroom chemicals became very difficult to get hold of so he put his camera away for a while.
A few years later, Chris had a serious health scare, putting him in hospital. He felt that if he recovered then he should concentrate on creative pursuits. Doctors were able to diagnose the problem and prescribe an effective medication. Once he had recovered enough, he bought himself an entry level DSLR, and found it to be much better than the early digital cameras that he hated. His passion for photography was reignited.
He found that he enjoyed having a more structured approach, and started developing projects to work on. He currently has three in progress and many more in various stages of being planned.
